Whether it is a workshop or garage, having a ratchet wrench set in your tool kit is one of the most important things. It is a common wrench device with a fastener component. And used for cars or home repairs, loosen or tighten the nuts and bolts, etc.

If you need to do some heavy-duty repairing work then the socket ratchet wrench set is a perfect choice. A socket wrench is a hand tool with a ratcheting mechanism on its head. You can easily attach any size of the socket on the wrench head for different purposes. However, make sure you’re using the right socket size for your nut or bolt.

Let’s know about different types of sockets:

There are different types of sockets available in the market. Each socket offers you different benefits and best suitable for loosening or tightening the different shape tools.

  1. Hex Wrench Socket

Hex sockets are the most common type of wrench socket. This type of socket comes in two main types such as hex/6 point sockets and bi-hex/12 point sockets. It is perfectly suitable for loosening or tightening the sex headed nuts and bolts. 6 point sockets perfect for hexagonal and 12 point socket perfect for double hex. The 12 point socket easily fits over the hexagonal bolt head. Moreover, these 6 and 12 point sockets are the perfect choices for working in a tight space.

  1. Impact Sockets

Wrench impact sockets are specially designed for use with impact drivers or powered impact wrenches such as impact guns. These kinds of sockets are made up of industrial surfaces (ductile and less brittle grade steel) and black in color. Impact sockets have a thicker wall and corrosion-resistant finish. Moreover, they are perfect for managing high power and extra vibration.

  1. Wrench Spark Plug Sockets

Another type of wrench socket spark plug sockets used to remove or fit the spark plugs from engines. These spark plug sockets are longer as compared to standard sockets. They come with rubber inserted that protects the spark plug damaged while the wrench is working.

Note* Always choose the correct size spark plug socket for your car and prevent spark plug damage.

  1. Socket Bits

These socket bits are the combination of bits: hex socket and screwdriver bit. Like hex socket, socket bits also connect to a ratchet tool. The socket bits are made up of solid pieces of metal or constructed from two separate parts. Socket bits mostly come in sets and best suitable for working with impact drivers and manual tools.

  1. Pass through Sockets

Like other sockets, pass-through sockets don’t have a square drive. These kinds of sockets are especially used to tighten or loosen the nuts and bolts if you have a bold or stud with a long shaft. Pass-through sockets have a hollow tube in it which means you can sometimes use these sockets to remove or replace nuts on long bolts. Besides, you don’t need to face any kind of length related issues.
